Morgan Macguire, AMFT
Psychotherapist
(She/Her)
People often come to me carrying experiences that long for a gentle witness—wounds shaped by early attachment, parts of themselves that feel unacknowledged, or a sense of standing at a threshold where something old is ending and something new has not yet found form. I work with adults, couples, parents, and children navigating these deeper currents of their inner lives.
My practice is grounded in depth psychology, psychoanalytic thinking, expressive arts, and somatic practice. I understand psychological suffering less as a pathology to be corrected and more as a meaningful signal pointing toward something seeking attention, understanding, and integration.
I work in a direct and engaged way, transparent about how I work and active in session. Drawing on somatic work, expressive arts, and attention to dreams and symbolic material, I help clients give form to inner experience. Re-membering and working with the dream allows the unconscious wisdom within to awaken.
I hold the full range of emotional life as worthy of attention—including anger and rage. I see these intense emotions not as problems to be managed, but as forces with direction and intelligence. I am as comfortable sitting with fury as I am with grief or collapse.
Attachment, Couples, and Our Many Selves
Within our bodies, we carry the living memory of every age we have ever been—the child who learned to stay small, the teenager who needed more than they received, the younger self who adapted in ways that made sense then but create friction now. These parts do not vanish; they remain alive in our nervous systems and shape the patterns that repeat in our closest relationships.
Whether working with individuals or couples, I focus heavily on these early attachment wounds and how they show up in the body, the imagination, and one’s relationships.
In couples therapy, we work to untangle the fears and impulses around losing ourselves, losing our partners, or losing the connection of the relationship.
Children and Families
With children and families, I work in much the same spirit—through play, image-making, movement, and story. Whether working with a young child, a teenager, or a parent and child together, I attend to the relational field between them:
What are the barriers to communication or clear expression?
What is seeking immediate repair?
How can we make the unsaid sayable?
I also support parents directly, helping them make sense of their own attachment histories so they can show up with more presence, steadiness, and clarity for their children.
Our work together is to bring you closer to yourself.
What you give to yourself, you can give to another—and so as that relationship with yourself deepens, so too does your capacity for meaningful connection with others, and a fuller sense of choice within your life.
